About Checkers

Checkers, also known as draughts, is one of the most popular strategy board games in the world. Here you play red against a computer opponent, or switch to two players and share the device with a friend. Captures are mandatory and multi-jumps are required, so thinking a few moves ahead is the key to winning.

Checkers (also called draughts) is played on an 8x8 board: move diagonally, jump over opponent pieces to capture them and crown a king by reaching the far row. Captures are mandatory and multi-jumps are required, just like the traditional rules. You play red and move first against the computer, or switch to two-player mode to play a friend on the same device.

Your score is one point for every opponent piece you capture, plus 10 bonus points if you win the game.

How to play Checkers

1. Tap one of your red pieces, then tap a highlighted square to move diagonally forward.
2. If you can jump an opponent's piece you must, and you must keep jumping while more jumps are available.
3. Reach the far row to crown a king, which can move and capture forwards and backwards.
4. Capture or block all of the opponent's pieces to win.

Checkers tips and tricks

• Keep your back row filled as long as you can, so the opponent finds it harder to crown a king.
• Trade pieces when you are ahead, because fewer pieces make your lead count for more.
• Before every move, check whether it forces you into a jump that opens a double capture for the computer.
